Greek-German driver Alexandros Margaritis has announced his retirement from DTM. From 2005 to 2007, the 23-year old driver contested 31 DTM races at the wheel of an older generation AMG Mercedes C-Class car.

"Retiring from DTM and splitting up with Mercedes-Benz Motorsport was my own decision," Margaritis insisted. "I'm going to inform my supporters on my new programme for the 2008 season in foreseeable future. I'm truly looking forward to the new challenges I'm going to face."

Insiders will say that Margaritis was extremely disappointed by the fact that Mercedes did not offer him a place in the works HWA team this season.

Margaritis scored a total of 27 drivers' championship points in his three years in the DTM series.
