4:45 PM - Mazda launched their long awaited latest high-performance Mazdaspeed6, the new Mazda 5, and their latest concept, the MX-Crossport.
The MAZDASPEED6 is powered by a turbocharged 274-hp 2.3L inline 4-cylinder engine. The motor is mated to a standard 6-speed manual transmission and to an Active torque-split all-wheel-drive system. The exterior boasts specific wheels, a trunk-lid lip spoiler and includes such interior niceties as leather & alcantara seating surfaces. It should be available at dealers during the course of the summer of 2005.
The Mazda5, based on the Mazda 3, is a 6-passenger carrier and it is equipped with the same 2.3-litre inline-4 as the 3 and 6 although in the 5, it develops 157 hp. It features a 3rd row seat, unusual for a vehicle of this size. The exterior styling is unmistakably Mazda. It should also be available at dealers during the course of the summer of 2005.
The MX Crossport is a sporty crossover SUV and a styling exercise that takes its cues from the company's RX-8 sports car. Neither engine nor the intention to produce the MX-Crossport was announced.
