Light-alloy wheels really became a part of the automotive lexicon at the end of the 1960's. Did you know that German automaker Mercedes-Benz was among the pioneers in the use and marketing of these innovative wheels? As car tuning became more and more popular, so did the retrofitting of customized wheels.

Teaming with the Sindelfingen Design Studio, Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH has just created five exclusive sets of "incenio" designer wheels for the new CL-Class coupé.

Ranging from 17 to 20 inches, the new optional wheels are subjected to a special, 10-hour heat treatment which significantly increases their strength. They are then carefully finished and optimally protected by up to four layers of paint as well as a particularly lustrous shade of "sterling silver".

Aside from their astonishing look and their uncomprising safety standards, the incenio wheels are said to enhance the comfort and smoothness of the ride. Enthusiasts will also find plenty to appreciate: according to Mercedes, optimisation of the wheel weight reduces the vehicle's unsprung masses, resulting in an improved, more spontaneous steering response.

These glossy sparkling wheels will be available across Europe from the end of October. No doubt Mercedes fans in Canada will be anxiously waiting for them to arrive on our shores.
