Along with dropping the 2.4-litre inline-4 for the 2000 model year, the Chevrolet division of General Motors has made a few other changes to its Malibu model.

Changes for 2000 also include changes to front centre grille and the emblem, solar front and rear windows, a new optional decklid spoiler with integrated centre-high mounted stoplight, lock-out protection, an optional gold package, rear seat assist handles and painted mudguards on the LS, wheel covers and alloy wheels, a vented sunshade for sunroof, and one new exterior color.

To provide for what it calls "affordable value," GM of Canada has given the regular Malibu Sedan a list price of $21,920 and the upscale LS an MSRP of $24,740.That's a considerable jump from last year's base price of $20,895, but it does iinclude the bigger engine. The LS version only went up from $24,170.

Every Malibu comes with air conditioning, floor mats, a rear window defogger, intermittent wipers, a front centre console, a AM/FM cassette stereo, rear seat heat ducts, cloth front buckets, a tilt adjustable steering wheel, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, and a power trunk release button.

Malibu's sole engine delivers 170 hp @ 5200 rpm and 190 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. and is attached to an electronically-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission.
