MINI CVT Enters Canadian Market

From the onset the new MINI Cooper has been available with a standard 5-speed manual and an optional 5-speed automatic with Steptronic manual mode. Now a new CVT or continuously variable automatic transmission joins the ranks, perfect for those who don't feel like shifting gears all the time but don't want to give up much fuel economy or performance. The MINI's CVT is electronically limited to six predetermined step ratios, shifting similarly to a traditional automatic rather than the odd sensation of acceleration with constant engine revs of early CVTs.
