Mississauga, ONT.– Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) announced today, its new partnership with Bullfrog Power, Canada’s 100 per cent green electricity provider. This alliance would make Mitsubishi the first automobile company in Canada to bullfrogpower its head office with 100 per cent clean renewable electricity.

Effective April 1st, Mitsubishi will green approximately 175 MWh of electricity annually, reducing its electricity-related carbon emissions footprint.

Mitsubishi is also the first new customer to join Partners in Project Green’s Green Power Challenge. This initiative, led by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and Toronto and Region Conservation, is made up of a growing community of businesses working together to green their bottom line by creating an internationally-recognized Eco-Business Zone around Toronto Pearson International Airport. In partnership with Bullfrog Power, Partners in Project Green recently launched the Green Power Challenge, encouraging businesses in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone to achieve a collective goal of greening 58,000 MWh of electricity.

“This joint partnership is a natural for Mitsubishi”, said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. “We have been working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with governments and other organizations through our support of the i-MiEV Electric Vehicle, and now we’re looking to reduce our electricity related emissions at our head office in Mississauga.”

“We are thrilled Mitsubishi has joined the Green Power Challenge and welcome the organization to the growing community of bullfrogpowered businesses in Canada,” said Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog Power. “By choosing clean, emissions-free electricity with Bullfrog Power for its head office, Mitsubishi is reducing its environmental impact, supporting the development of new renewable generation in Canada and raising awareness about clean energy choices available to homes and businesses across Canada— options that can help Canadians take meaningful action on climate change and air pollution.”

Bullfrog Power offers homes and businesses a clean, renewable electricity choice. The organization also uses the collective demand of its customers to cause new renewable facilities to be built. Several new wind turbines have been commissioned in the country as a result of the support of bullfrogpowered homes and businesses.

Earlier this year, Mitsubishi signed a memorandum of understanding with Transport Canada for further fleet testing of its all-electric vehicle i-MiEV, adding this to its list of partnerships that includes B.C. Hydro, the City of Vancouver, and Hydro Quebec.

This expansion of testing with Canadian partners will help bring i-MiEV to the streets of Canada, as Mitsubishi plans to launch electric vehicles in North America in 2011.

Through all of these initiatives, Mitsubishi is working towards reducing its environmental impact, helping to support new renewable generation in Canada, and joining the thousands of individuals and organizations across the country working toward a cleaner energy future.
