4:30 PM - Mitsubishi officially displayed their new 2006 models, the Raider pickup and Eclipse sport coupe.
The 2006 Raider is essentially a Dodge Dakota clone with a Mitsubishi-style front grille. It will be available in extended cab or double cab configurations, in either two- or four-wheel drive.
Power will come from the same engines as the Dakota, a 210-horsepower 3.7-litre V6 or 230-horsepower 4.7-litre V8.
The Raider will be available with a 500-watt, Sirius satellite-capable audio system.
As for the 2006 Eclipse, its stunning shape is influenced by Mitsu's 2004 Concept E. The Eclipse is racy and fluid, and features a futuristic cockpit with 'Ice Blue' instrument lighting.
Two engines will power the new sports coupe, a 2.4-litre inline-4 and a 260-horsepower 3.8-litre V6. Six-speed manual and 5-speed Sportronic automatic transmissions will be offered.
A killer 650-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system, with MP3 playback, 9 speakers and subwoofer, will also be available on the Eclipse.
Both 2006 Raider and Eclipse models will be available in the US in summer 2005. No dates have been announced for Canada, but their presence in our market is indeed confirmed. Neither one will be on display at the Montreal auto show, but the coupe will be on the Mitsubishi stand in Toronto.
Also, a droptop Eclipse will be introduced later this year.
The mighty Lancer EVO IX will see its world introduction at the New York auto show at the end of March.
The model introductions took place in the presence of Mitsubishi's new North-American CEO, Mr. Rich Gilligan.
