The GTI receives the turbocharged direct-injection 2.0L I-4 shared with the Jetta, Passat, A3 and A4. It puts out 200 hp and 207 lb/ft of torque. Transmission choices reside between a 6-speed DSG sequential manual and a conventional 6-speed manual. The list of safety features is impressive: 6 air bags, traction and stability control, active headrests, ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution and assist.
This is a driver's car and it looks the part too. It has an electronic differential lock, 17" alloys, blacked-out grille, a roof-mounted spoiler and the all-important red GTI badge.
Body configurations include a 3-door and 5-door hatchback. A 3-door GTI with a manual gearbox with go for $29,375. They will be available in dealerships next month.
