Competitors of the Champ Car World Series will have power than usual during the Gran Premio Tecate Presented in Mexico City, the ultimate round of the 2008 season.

In the previous races, drivers benefited from an additional 50 horsepower when pressing on the Cosworth Power-to-Pass button located on the steering wheel. The boost was available for 60 seconds.

In Mexico City, the drivers will have an additional 50 horsepower to enhance their ability to pass other cars, as well as additional 15 seconds of use for a total of 75 seconds of boost. This is logical as the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is located some 7000 feet above sea level, and engines lose quite a bit of power due to the drop in air density.

"We will analyze how a 100-horsepower Power-to-Pass feature will affect the racing so we can consider it for next year," said Tony Cotman, Champ Car Race Director. "The Cosworth Power-to-Pass has been very popular with the drivers, and even more so with the fans. Everyone assumes if we go up another 50 horsepower, it will add even more excitement, but we've wanted to wait until now because we didn't want the experiment to affect the championship.
