For the second race in a row, Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo obtained the pole with a stunning performances ahead of MotoGP Grand Prix of Spain.

The Fiat Yamaha rider even beat his compatriot and arch-rival Dani Pedrosa, who qualified second with his Repsol Honda. Colin Edwards who has been competitive all thru the practice sessions was third on his Tech 3 Yamaha.

Nicky Hayden in the second works Honda qualified fourth, ahead of Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi and LCR Honda's Randy de Puniet.

World champion Casey Stoner, on his Ducati, had to settle for a distant seventh
