After obtaining the pole yesterday, Valentino Rossi continued on and won his seventh Italian victory, making it is third win back to back this year. The Fiat Yamaha driver has now strengthened his championship lead.

Rossi, after dropping to fourth at the start, had to work his way back at the front again, battling with Ducati's Casey Stoner and Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa.

Stoner and Pedrosa finally finished second and third in front of Alex de Angelis (Gresini Honda) and Colin Edwards (Tech 3 Yamaha).

Rossi's teammate, Jorge Lorenzo crashed early in the race but he escaped injury.
