Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) starting from pole position won today's first edition of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix beating by more than 5 seconds American Nicky Hayden (Honda) who came in second.

The rain shortened the MotoGP race by more than 6 laps, but by then Rossi had already overtaken Hayden who took the lead on lap 2. Rossi and Hayden exchanged fastest laps for ten consecutive laps, while the rest of the field, led by the Italian's teammate Jorge Lorenzo, dropped back.

Jorge Lorenzo finally took third in front of Ducati's Casey Stoner and Andrea Davizioso on Honda. Another favorite of the crowd Ben Spies took sixth for Rizla Suzuki.
