Legendary team owner and highly successful businessman Roger Penske turns 75 today, February 20.

Roger Penske was born February 20, 1937, in Shaker Heights, Ohio. He is a 1959 graduate of Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.

A winning racer in the late 1950s, Roger Penske was named 1961's Sports Car Club of America Driver of the Year by Sports Illustrated. Retiring from driving a few years later at the age of 27 he created one of the most successful teams in IndyCar Series and NASCAR racing.

He is the founder and chairman of Penske Corporation is a closely-held, on-highway, diversified transportation services company whose subsidiaries operate in a variety of industry segments, including retail automotive, truck leasing, transportation logistics, transportation component manufacturing and professional motorsports.

Penske Corporation manages businesses with revenues in excess of $16 billion, operating in nearly 2,900 locations and employing more than 36,000 people worldwide.

Penske has also gone on to be one of the powerhouses in motorsport, with his empire including an IndyCar team, a NASCAR operation and a sports car team, all of which have proven to be extremely successful ventures.

He even briefly ran a Formula 1 team in the middle of the 1970s, with British driver John Watson winning the 1976 Grand Prix of Austria in Zeltweg in the Penske PC4-Ford Cosworth V-8.
