This week-end marks the half-point in the NASCAR season and everyone is heading for the Daytona International Speedway for two evening races except for the Craftsman Truck drivers who will be racing the Ford Built Tough 225 at the Kentucky Speedway on Friday evening. This race will be seen on Speed TV.

As for the Nationwide boys, they will race the big Daytona oval on Friday evening for the Winn-Dixie 250 powered by Coca-Cola, a race that will be seen both on TSN and RDS (French). Canadian fans will be looking at D.J. Kennington's performance (Dodge No 81).

The Sprint Cup team will be racing on Saturday evening for the Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola, another event shown on TSN and RDS.

Unfortunately, one important driver will be missing as Dario Franchitti's Dodge No 40 team has suspended its operation for budgetary reasons.

On the other hand, this race will mark the return of our own Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10) on the 2.5-mile oval where he did not qualify for the Daytona 500 last winter because of a blown tire.

For the NASCAR Canadian Tire series, it will finally run its Koday 250 race at the short St-Eustache bull ring Saturday evening.

Other than the usual competitors, at least three new Quebec drivers will try to qualify for the event including bike champ Miguel Duhamel, veteran Andre Coursol and local stock-car star Patrick Laperle.
