After running a partial schedule in 2009, JR Fitzpatrick is now leading the battle for the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Championship as the series is coming to the Riverside International Speedway in Nova Scotia.

His battle with DJ Kennington started in the season’s very first race, in which Fitzpatrick finished as the runner-up to Kennington. Since then, the points lead has changed hands five times between the two close friends.

Fitzpatrick currently holds a precarious 21-point lead over Kennington and both drivers agree that the chase for the championship would be decided at the season finale on Sept. 25 at Kawartha Speedway.

Nonetheless, the Komatsu 300 to be held at RIS this week-end will surely play a significant role in who will end up with the title.

In his two prior Nova Scotia starts — 2007 and 2008 — Fitzpatrick finished second. Kennington finished third in the 2007 event.
