It was a Roush Fenway Ford-Friendly-Friday as teammates, Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle claimed the front row for Sunday’s Jeff Byrd 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Edwards, continuing his momentum from his win in Las Vegas said: “I was just telling somebody up there at the pole award that the win last week at Vegas was huge, but I thought a lot about this race track the last couple of weeks. It’s kind of an intimidating place, you don’t know how you’re gonna run here because it’s such a tough race track.”
It was Roush Fenway’s third consecutive pole this year. Edwards averaged 14.989 seconds (128.014 mph) for his eighth career pole.
“My car was really fast,” said Biffle, who qualified in second. “I probably should have got the gas down a little bit sooner, but woulda, shoulda, coulda. I’ve got a really fast car and I’m really happy. The guys worked hard. It looks like we’ve come back from our incident at Las Vegas and we’re gonna have a good run.”
Regan Smith had a career-best qualifying in third. “It was a good lap; we weren't quite that good in practice. The guys made some good adjustments. We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to do. Just a little bit too tight.
“I figured with Carl (Edwards) and Greg (Biffle) going there at the end, we were probably in trouble [for the pole], but it was still a good lap and we will definitely take it for the Furniture Row Chevy."
Fourth place went to Paul Menard’s Chevrolet. The green flag is expected for Sunday afternoon, in Bristol, known as one of the most exciting racetracks of the season.
