Carl Edwards was about the only driver not bitten by the Monster Mile in Saturday’s Nationwide Race.

Joey Logano, battling with Edwards on a second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish, got loose coming out of a turn, bounced off the outside wall and caromed into an innocent Clint Bowyer, launching Bowyer then running third, on two wheels hard into the inside wall.

That incident also tagged Kyle Busch who finished second in yet another battered car. Reed Sorenson was third.

"I'm just glad it worked out," a subdued Edwards said after refraining from his usual post-victory blackflips. "I'm glad that I didn't hit him. I'm glad that everyone was OK. But that's a product of what we do. When it comes down to it… this race track, we're driving so hard here, and there's so much grip, and you're giving everything you can, and the cars are so close there at the end. …

"Obviously, Joey was racing as hard as he possibly could. I was racing as hard as I could. Man, that's why they call it (Dover) the Monster Mile."

Immediately after the race, Carl Edwards apologized to Joey Logano thinking that they made contact, but, that wasn’t necessary. “Carl didn’t hit me and didn’t turn me around. He just got me loose by getting under me there. Plus, we were already up the track a little bit and at that point, it doesn’t take much to get these cars sideways. So it was just hard racing,” Joey Logano said.

It was Edwards third Nationwide victory of the season and 32nd in his career.

The race was delayed by a red flag for rain which lasted 28 minutes.

Back to Clint Bowyer, who was listed 14th in the results, a spring from his car struck his KHI crew member, Glen Wheeler, in the left leg. Wheeler was taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

Elliott Sadler, another KHI driver, took over the series points lead from Justin Allgaier who had a rare DNF (falling to fifth). Sorenson is second followed by Jason Leffler.

Cambridge, Ontario’s J.R. Fitzgerald finished 21rst in the GoCanada Ford Mustang.
