A yellow flag on the last lap at Talladega clinched Clint Bowyer’s redemption.
Clint Bowyer was racing against his Richard Childress teammate, Kevin Harvick, for the win on the white flag lap when the yellow was waved after AJ Allmendinger’s car went for a wild ride.
NASCAR officials reviewed videos and timing loops determining that Bowyer led when the yellow came out and awarded him his fourth career Cup victory.
Clint Bowyer, the Loudon victor who lost 150 points when his car was found to violate technical tolerances, was visibly relieved after the race. "To be able to win, it is redemption," a smiling Bowyer said. "It finally puts that behind me as a racecar driver, as a person, and us as a race team."
"I'm still frustrated. (The penalty) took the wind out of my sails," Clint Bowyer added. The two races after that whole mess, it was a disaster. If we had that back, we were along our normal routine, I don't think we would have had those bad runs that we've had.
With Kevin Harvick taking his damaged car home in second, points leader, Jimmie Johnson, in seventh and Denny Hamlin in ninth; the point’s battle tightened up considerably.
With three races remaining Jimmie Johnson has a 14-point lead over Denny Hamlin and 38 over Clint Bowyer.
In a way it was an atypical restrictor plate race at the 2.66 mile high banked speedway as there was no huge crash which radically changed the point’s standings.
