Though the skies were threatening all day long and even if there were a few sprinkles during the race, the NASCAR Martinsville Sprint Cup race was completed.

At the end of the 500 laps, it seemed that one of the Hendrick boys was about to finally bring one home but it was a Toyota driver, Denny Hamlin (Camry No 11) who came across the finish line first.

He was followed by Jeff Gordon (Chevy No 24), Jeff Burton (Chevy No 31), Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48), Tony Stewart (Camry No 20) and Dale Earnhardt (Chevy No 88).

As for Canadian driver Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10), he started in 37th spot and ended up in 29th, some three laps behind the leaders.

The short-track race was slowed by 18 yellow flag situations, none with very serious consequences.
