Jimmie Johnson may not have a road-course victory but after a winning the pole with a blistering lap in Friday's qualifying session, he is one of the favorites Sunday.
Johnson, driving the No. 48 Chevrolet, captured the pole with a time of 71.633 seconds and the average speed of 123.633 mph.
Kurt Busch qualified second in the No. 2 Dodge, 0.008 seconds down to Johnson.
Denny Hamlin qualified third ahead of Australian Marcos Ambrose. David Stremme, Ryan Newman, Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch, Boris Said and Juan Pablo Montoya rounded out the top 10.
Series’ point leader Tony Stewart qualified 13th.
Canadian road course racer Patrick Carpentier, driving the No. 55 NAPA car, ranked 17th and looks forward to a top-10 finish on Sunday.
