What followed were five more yellow flags in the next 60 laps including a nine-car collision which took out contenders Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth.

Things settled down for the final green-flag 86-lap run to the end with Busch holding off Hamlin, as the both were in fuel conservation mode, by 1.8 seconds.

There was just nothing Hamlin could do but watch and wait and hope Busch would run out of fuel as he did in Thursday night’s charity race.

"He drove a great race. I thought he would burn his stuff up," Denny Hamlin said. "Our cars were dead-equal."

After the race Newman went to the NASCAR hauler to see how NASCAR was going react to Montoya’s incident but the Colombian ex-Formula 1 driver went straight out of the track without comment. Newman said "I was intentionally crashed and it ruined our day."

In other NASCAR news Daytona 500 winner, Trevor Bayne, was admitted to the Mayo Clinic for tests. On Bayne’s Twitter account it said "still at the hospital! Don't think its related to the bite." His Nationwide team owner, Jack Roush said he expected Bayne to be released this week.
