It's Ryan Newman (Dodge No 12), winner of the Daytona 500 last February who has the pole at the NASCAR Sprint Cup race to be held Saturday evening at the Phoenix International Raceway.

Newman went as fast as 133.457 mph. Elliott Sadler (Dodge No 19) will be on the front row with Newman, he ran 133.412 mph. Last week's winner in Texas, Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) will start third.

As far as Canadian Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10) is concerned, he once again qualified, this time in 37th spot at 131.167 mph while his team mates Sadler (Dodge No 19) and Kasey Kahne (Dodge No 9) are second and fifth in the starting line up.

Only two drivers did not qualify, veteran Kyle Petty (Dodge no 45) and John Andretti (Chevy No 34). Incidentally, Jeremy Mayfield was released from the Hass CNC Chevy No 70 and was replaced by Johnny Sauter who qualified 42nd! Bill Elliott (Ford No 21) will start 43rd and last thanks to his past champion provisional.
