Tony Schumacher, National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) Top Fuel champion, was recently chosen as the 2008 Driver of the Year by a panel of 18 American motor sports journalists. He has beaten Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards.
Schumacher, who tied an NHRA record of 15 wins this season, got six votes, slightly surpassing the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and vice-champion Carl Edwards who both got five votes each.
Johnson had been the Driver of the Year for the past two seasons. Note that Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart each got a vote in the same annual contest
