Nothing finally went according to plan for Alex Tagliani who, after being unable to complete the qualifying session, had to take the start with the reserve car during the Nationwide event presented Saturday, in Phoenix.

Tagliani damaged the No. 81 Dodge of McDonald Motorsports in his second run during qualifying and his crew was unable to repair the car in time for the race.

Therefore, Tagliani had to take the start of the race with the reserve car which was not set-up for such small tri-oval like the one in Phoenix.

The Canadian only completed 14 laps before heading into the garage. That early retirement put him 41st in the race won by Carl Edwards.
