That's not the only thing that could sound wrong. Imagine a four-door Mazda MX-5, a FWD Jeep Wrangler or Honda offering a V8 engine in their lineup.
Some things are meant to change, while others should always remain the same. Well, that reads a little near-sighted; let's just say that staying true to ones roots is important even while evolution takes place.
A discussion took place recently between Autocar and BMW on the subject of moving a diesel powerplant into the next M5.
No clear answer was given, however, the BMW rep did specify that they are always open to new and different solutions. By comparing today's M cars with those from 15 years ago, things have definitely changed. Namely, the addition of turbochargers, AWD and SUVs.
Although BMW does offer super-powerful and clean diesel engines at the moment, Mr BMW says that any major overhaul of the M portfolio must and will reflect BMW's plan and ethos.
In other words, it won't happen any time soon.
Breath bated.
