Volvo has been in the wagon game for over 50 years, and has since learned a thing or two about building a family hauler of uncompromised performance, utility and style.
Their new V70 wagon will be unveiled at the International Motor Show in Geneva on March 6th prior to its sales launch in 2008. The new V70 is the latest in Volvo's aggressive new model program, and the fourth new vehicle announced in the past 12 months. Joining the C70, S80 and C30, the V70 will cement Volvos leadership in the luxury / performance wagon market.
"With the all-new Volvo V70, we want to mark our position in the premium segment even more clearly than before," says Tomas Ahlborg, V70 Project Director. "We have seen that wagons in the premium segment follow the same trend as sedans in the shift towards more specialized products. We have focused firmly on giving the Volvo V70 all the best features. In addition to design and safety, we've given top priority to areas such as driving pleasure, flexible function and high comfort. We know that all these properties are important to Volvo's customers."
Part of the driving pleasure he mentions will no doubt be extracted from the host of powerplants planned for the model, ranging from an inline-five cylinder turbo with just under 200 horsepower to a 282 horsepower turbocharged straight-six. All wheel drive will be optional and diesel engines may also be available, though the Canadian engine lineup has yet to be finalized.
Volvo takes safety seriously, and the new V70 is built with a focus on protecting young occupants. A world first, Volvo will install a height-adjustable child booster cushion on each rear outboard seat- ensuring that the child is in their best position to benefit from seatbelts.
When luxury, safety, performance and utility matter, the Volvo V70 is destined head of the pack.
