Nissan Motor Company is poised to launch its first clean diesel powered vehicle by 2010 in North America. Many would believe that a compact diesel Nissan would make sense however it appears as though this will not be the case. Nissan's flagship sports sedan, the Maxima, will be the chosen vessel for the introduction of Nissan's latest diesel technology.
As with most other manufacturers that sell vehicles in Europe, Nissan already has a series of diesel powerplants in their production cars. They will combine their know-how with that of Renault to create an engine that will meet stringent US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier II Bin 5 emissions requirements.
This announcement is part of Nissan Green Program which has already put into motion with the recent arrival of the Altima Hybrid.
