Their first entry into the gasoline-electric market, the Altima Hybrid carries on the models performance in a different arena- efficiency and emissions. The 2.5 litre 4-cylinder engine is mated to an Xtronic Continually Variable Transmission (CVT) as well as an electric motor and generator that increases fuel economy and lowers emissions. The CVT works by seamlessly altering drive ratios to eliminate gear shifting, allowing the engine to spend less time revving up and down and therefore increasing longevity and reducing fuel consumption.

Nissan's new hybrid has been certified to meet California emissions requirements and it will initially be available in the 8 states that have adopted these standards: California, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine and New Jersey. Nissan says that these states are among the strongest markets for hybrid vehicles.
The Altima Hybrid offers the same great looks and involving ride and handling of the non-hybrid version, illustrating Nissans respect for the environment in a way that doesn't sacrifice and power and performance that the brand is known for.
