Since its beginnings in 1933, Nissan (then simply called Automobile Manufacturing Company Ltd.) produced about 76,640,000 vehicles in Japan, and about 23,500,000 overseas. They've come a long way since the Datsun Type Twelve, and as of the end of June, their total global production stood around 100,140,000 vehicles.

Tadao Takahashi, Executive VP of Manufacturing at Nissan, thanked the company's employees and customers, and promised continued improvements in quality and delivery times. He mentioned using the Nissan Production Way to realize the next one hundred millionth vehicle milestone.

It was 1935 when the newly-named company began operations at its Yokohama plant, the first of its kind to mass produce cars in Japan. Considerable expansion took place in the 60's and 70's with additional plants being utilized, as well as the merger with Prince Motor Company in 1966.

Nissan's expansion and pioneering spirit earlier life has paid off today. Nissan currently leads the North American automotive industry in efficiency in terms of labor-hours per vehicle, and their new model lineup is highly anticipated.
