Ontario has selected Host Kilmer Service Centres Inc. as the preferred promoter to modernize and improve 20 highway service areas located on Highways 400 and 401.

Infrastructure Ontario is finalizing the details of the contract and expects to conclude negotiations with Host Kilmer this fall.

The new service centres will include modern fuel and restaurant services and offer improved tourist information as well as clean and upgraded rest and comfort facilities for motorists. Since most of the existing service areas were built in the 1960s, they are no longer in good condition and do not meet current energy efficiency standards.

The project will create around 2,500 jobs. Detailed information on construction start and reopening dates for each of the service areas will be available in the fall.

The new facilities will be certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System (LEEDS) thanks to enhanced energy efficiency and efficient water management.
