The H6 engine is not a high-performance mill. It's just a good engine that is well adapted to the Outback. Acceleration is good but not impressive. Passing speeds were more convincing. But the engine is very quiet on the highway. The transmission worked smoothly. The only noise to enter the car was that of the tires. Still, I found them very quiet. Braking is good but not exceptionnal. Fuel consumption is probably more than that of two-wheel driven cars but it is not so bad after all. My major complain was wind noise close to the driver's side window. Notice that there are no frames to the side windows.
All in all, yes, this Subaru is a great car. Nothing exceptionnal but great. Where it has more to offer than many other sedans is with its all-wheel drive system and its ground clearance (which I found useful while parking in a rough spot). The biggest problem? At some $42,000, isn't it a little too expensive.
