GM of Canada has announced prices for the 2000 Saturn L-series sedan and wagon and they're aggressive as well as firm since Saturn has a no-dicker policy.

The sedan starts with the LS as the base model and that will cost consumers $20,075. The LS1 will cost $22,440 and the LS2 $26,940. There are two wagon models, the LW1 at $25,220 and the LW2 at $28,630.

LS and LW fit squarely into the mid-size class and will compete against many fine cars, including Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Maxima, Oldsmobile Intrigue, Subaru Legacy, and Toyota Camry.

Standard on the LS, LS1 and LW1 is an all-new, Saturn-exclusive 2.2-liter, 4-cylinder featuring twin balance shafts for quiet operation, while a 3.0-liter V6 is standard on the LS2 and LW2.

The base engine delivers 137 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 135 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm, while the V-6 delivers 182 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 184 pound-feet of torque at 3400 rpm.

A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the LS and LS1, while a computer-controlled 4-speed automatic is available with the four-cylinder and standard with the V6.Both models are 4836 mm long, while the sedan sits on a wheelbase of 2703 mm, which is 3 mm longer than the wagon's. Both are 1753 mm wide, but the wagon at 1455 mm is 23 mm taller than the sedan. The wagon is also slightly heavier, at 1395 kg, than the sedan at 1320 kg.
