Fisker is currently setting up a dealer network and should begin selling their Karma plug-in hybrid in the fall of 2009. The 2010 Karma, which will start at $87,900, has already racked up 1,000 orders since last year.

The four-door Karma seats four occupants and features two electric motors that each develop 201 horsepower, and attached to a lithium-ion battery pack. A turbocharged 2.0-litre Ecotec engine, compliments of General Motors, refills the batteries with electricity.

Called Q-Drive, the hybrid system offers two driving modes. The Stealth mode is electric-only and allows the car to travel up to 80 kilometers on a single charge. The Sport mode makes use of the gasoline engine to extend the Karma's range to up to 480 km. 110-volt, 220-volt and 240-volt power outlets can recharge the batteries.

Fully-charged, the car can accelerate to 96 km/h (60 mph) in 8.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of a little over 200 km/h. The Karma is clearly a performance-oriented sedan.

Inside, buyers will be able to choose from three different trim levels, EcoBase, EcoSport and EcoChic. The first 99 copies of the Karma will be built to match the same specifications of the 2008 prototype.

Also on display is the Karma S, a hardtop convertible concept based on the Karma sedan. It shares the latter's powertrain and architecture.
