The second round of the Canadian Rally Championship will be held this Friday in Alberta with the 38th running of the Rocky Mountain Rally.

The event will now run on a single day near Calgary around the Kananaskis Country, a first for this event that used to head south over the last twenty years.

North American Triple Crown champions and victors in 2010, [link artid="125028"]Antoine L’Estage[link] from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and co-driver Nathalie Richard from Halifax will lead the 28-car field in their Mitsubishi Evolution and aim for their second victory this season after an outright win in February at Rallye Perce-Neige.

Pat Richard and Leanne Junnila of Subaru Rally Team Canada will try to give L’Estage a good run. Richard drives a 2008 Subaru Impreza STI.

Other competitors to watch for include Leo Urlichich and Martin Brady in their Subaru in the Open Class as well as Marty Schmidtke and John Hall in a WRX.

In Class 5 Calgary’s own Zbigniew Szewczyk and Tomasz Karzynski in a Ralliart model will face returning 2WD champions Jan and Jody Zedril of Winnipeg in a Lancer ES. Both have won this class in past editions.

The only lady crew at national level Michelle Labramboise and Élise Racette has a Top Ten in sight with their Mitsubishi EVO IV.

Second event of the season, Rocky Mountain Rally, will head out of Calgary early on Friday, May 27. Thursday will be spent for recce for all teams: each stage will be traveled twice at low speed and co-drivers will amass notes on each curve and danger in these speed sections.

The Rocky Mountain Rally has a reputation for unpredictable road conditions, from thick dust to heavy snow. The Kananaskis new route will total 395 kilometres with 187 of them featured in special stages.
