Road racer Rinaldo “Dindo” Capello scored a victory at the Monza Rally Show last weekend, driving a World Rally Championship Citroen C4 WRC.
Capello is a works driver for Audi and former Le Mans 24 Hours winner, who normally drives the mighty turbo diesel Audi R15.
Italian Capello defeated MotoGP superstar and fellow contryman Valentino Rossi who had to be content with second place in a Ford Focus WRC after having to recover from a costly spin whilst leading the event.
Fabio Babini had been in second spot for most of the event but eventually finished third overall following a wrong tyre choice he made for his Subaru Impreza S12, though he did beat former double World Rally Champion Marcus Gronholm of Finland who brought the S14 Impreza home in fourth place.
Capello also claimed the Master Show finale event by defeating Alessandro Perico, driving a similar Citroen C4 WRC.
Results:
1. Rinaldo Capello/Luigi Pirollo (I) Citroen C4 WRC 1:17.47,2
2. Valentino Rossi/Carlo Cassina (I) Ford Focus RS WRC 08 +17,8 sec.
3. Fabio Babini/Giovanni Bernacchini (I) Subaru Impreza WRC S12 +42,3
4. Marcus Grönholm/Timo Rautainen (FIN) Subaru Impreza WRC S14 +48,7
5. Andrea Navarra/Massimiliano Cerrari (I) Subaru Impreza WRC S14 +1.32,8
etc.
