According to web site rallye-magazin.de, German car manufacturer Volkswagen could enter the FIA World Rally Championship in a not-so-distant future. The Volkswagen name was also linked to a possible graduation to Formula 1, but it would make fart more sense for VW to enter the world of rallying.
VW motorsport chief Kris Nissen attended the recent Rally of Finland, visiting the service park at Jyvaskyla following the shakedown on Thursday morning. According to the web site, Nissen met with series officials to enquiry about the new technical regulations and plans concerning the appointment of a central promoter.
If this goes ahead, Volkswagen would compete alongside the likes of Ford, Citroen, Subaru and Suzuki.
The new world rally car regulations could ask for race cars derived from the current Super 2000 category. They would be supercharged and fitted with an advanced aero kit.
