The Homestead-Miami Speedway will host the first open test of the year on the 1.5-mile oval February 27-28.

A second open test, held March 2-5 on the Sebring International Raceway road course will precede the season opener March 29 under the lights at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

In addition to preparing for the test dates and season, IndyCar Series officials have been busy providing technical information and spec parts to the Champ Car World Series teams planning to join the series. The car count is expected to fluctuate throughout the season, what with partial-season programs and all.

Drivers will for the first time be using paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheels in all events but the 92nd Indianapolis 500. A variable assist steering rack is optional for teams on road/street circuits.

Also, qualifications on all ovals for 2008 will change to four-lap cumulative time like the Indianapolis 500. Previously, the better of two timed laps determined starting position. Road/street course qualifying remains the same with single-car/timed single-lap session preceding the 10-minute Firestone Fast Six rally session to set the first three rows.
