The Renault-Nissan Alliance is showing clear signs of its commitment to develop and produce green vehicles like electric cars and fuel cell vehicles. The French-Japanese auto group announced mass-marketing of electric vehicles in Israel and Denmark starting in 2011.

More importantly for us, Nissan recently confirmed plans to start selling electric vehicles in the U.S. and Japan by the end of 2010, meaning the Chevrolet Volt will have some competition right from the start.

Renault-Nissan is currently working on the development of fuel cell-powered electric vehicles. One prototype is the Nissan X-Trail FCV, which has been undergoing 'real-world' testing for more than two years, with units leased to government authorities in Japan. Meanwhile, the Renault Scenic ZEV H2, a joint Alliance development, features Nissan's in-house fuel cell stack, high-pressure hydrogen storage tank and compact lithium-ion batteries, not to mention a Renault-engineered architecture.

These two vehicles will be taking part in environmental road shows across Europe this summer.
