Frenchman Romain Grosjean emerged as the champion of champions, having won Bangkok's 2012 Race Of Champions competition.

Grosjean edged off eighth-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen in the final of the season-ending classic, after disposing of Sebastian Vettel and then Michael Schumacher, one after the other.

Of the two, Vettel exited the competition in the most dramatic fashion, crashing out of the quarter-final portion.

Ironically, Vettel and Schumacher's Team Germany had won the team contest the day before, by beating Grosjean and fellow countryman Sébastien Ogier's Team France in the final.

"That’s what I’d call a crazy day," admitted the Lotus driver.

"It got a bit tough in the group stages but I managed to make it through. Then I had to face Sebastian Vettel in the quarter-final before Michael Schumacher in the semi-final – the two Germans who beat us in yesterday’s ROC Nations Cup final."

2012 runner-up Kristensen, also runner-up in 2011, at least managed the fastest lap of the weekend. He also did get his revenge over Ogier, last year's champion, beating the WRC ace in the quarter-finals.
