Michael Schumacher proved he hasn't lost speed despite not having driven a Formula 1 for some 12 months. The seven-time World Champion set the fastest time of the day, diving the Ferrari F2007. Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer was second fastest.
McLaren-Mercedes' Pedro de la Rosa was 3rd, ahead of the surprising Heikki Kovalainen (Renault).
Most cars ran without the common ECU (electronic engine management), engine braking and traction control. Most drivers truly enjoyed the experience of driving an F1 car fitted with no driving aids.
"I have to say that driving without any assistance, as was the case today is really great," said Kovalainen. "You have to pay attention to your driving, the reaccelerating, tyre wear and behind the wheel, it's fun."
