Former Formula 1 driver Heinz Harald Frentzen topped the hour long Speedcar Series practice session this afternoon at the Bahrain International Circuit ahead of two races to follow this weekend on Friday and Saturday.
The German driver came in ahead of Gianni Morbidelli by less than a tenth of a second while Jean Alesi classified in third spot lagging by 0.252. Frentzen is currently in second in the driver championship standings after having finished second in the last race in Dubai.
Vitantonio Liuzzi, winner of the last race in Dubai and currently leading the driver championship classified in 4th place.
Former Formula 1 World Champion, Canadian Jacques Villeneuve (photo) ranked 8th at the wheel of his Durango No 96 car.
"The car suffered from an electrical problem that caused the big block V-8 to misfire," Villeneuve told Auto123.com.
"So we lost the first half hour. That solved, I returned in action and we managed to do some changes to the car that looked promising. The split times are very good and if I put a good, clean lap together, I'll be right up there. So I look forward to a good qualifying effort tomorrow."
