If Mercedes-Benz is correct, then two displays are better than one: especially when they both exist on the same screen.

With a new technology called SPLITVIEW, the driver and front passenger will be able to watch two different images from the same display screen. Mercedes is the first premium brand to introduce the technology, which will initially be available on their S-Class luxury sedan.

With SPLITVIEW on board, the driver would be able to check out navigation information while his front seat passenger watched a movie, for instance.

Developed with Bosch, SPLITVIEW utilizes an 8-inch monitor which displays via a backlit active matrix color display. Pixels are placed adjacent to one another, and a special filter mask over the screen divides the mixed picture into two separate images depending on the viewers location in the car.

While the driver maintains control over all standard functions, the passenger can enjoy their entertainment via a set of headphones to minimize distractions while they take in a DVD, television station or music video.

Look for SPLITVIEW at your Mercedes-Benz dealership this summer.
