When Aston Martin unveiled the luxury sedan Rapide in 2008, the automaker was planning on building about 38 per week (2,000 per year). Apparently, sales of the car aren’t living up to the British firm’s expectations, as Aston Martin has slowed production down to 25 per week (1,300 per year) to adjust to the demand.

And according to Autocar, sources even confessed that production might drop down to 10 a week, a scenario Aston execs are trying to avoid at all costs.

The British magazine also revealed that production was temporarily halted right after the Royal Wedding in May. At the time, an e-mail was sent to contractors saying they wouldn’t be needing further components for the month.

The sedan was introduced before the worldwide economic crisis that severely affected the auto industry and particularly the luxury market in 2009. Aston Martin’s sales have dropped by half since then.

Today, several analysts believe the segment is on the rise, so there’s a glimmer of hope for the struggling automaker.
