Hamilton, meanwhile, was ecstatic about the outcome of the race:
''This result is far better than all I had envisioned for my first Grand Prix. I want to thank my entire team, who worked very hard during the winter to get me as ready as possible. I got a pretty decent start, but the BMWs seemed to be extremely quick off the grid and Robert Kubica got past me. The race then intensified but I kept pushing and pushing.''
He added: ''I did make a few mistakes in this one but nothing major. It's awesome to be the race leader for a few laps, but I knew too well it wouldn't last. Fernando passed me after my second stop in the pits because he stayed longer on the track while I was slowed by the traffic.''
As for the other teams, they barely made waves: Honda with their Earth-colored cars, Renault with their yellow and orange machines, Toro Rossos and Red Bulls that went unnoticed (save for an airborne move by David Coulthard over Alexander Wurtz -- no injuries to report, fortunately. The former apologized to the latter after the race).
My comments after 1/17 of the season is completed:
There was nothing too exciting! Thank God for NASCAR and endurance races, where passing happens all the time.
Formula One has become nothing more than a nice, multi-million dollar fashion show. Period!
