The good people at GM Inside News have shared a rumour stating that the 2012 edition of the GMC Terrain will benefit from a few extra technologies, including MyLink, a complement to OnStar and direct competitor to Ford’s SYNC, Hyundai’s Blue Link and many others.

The addition of MyLink comes as no great surprise. When the system was launched, GM announced its intention of using it in the Volt and Chevrolet Equinox. The Equinox and Terrain are built on the same platform, and other than different bodies and display colours, they’re essentially identical.

Blind spot monitoring, collision avoidance and lane departure systems will also be included.

Will these upgrades be enough to trump well-established players like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4? It’s too soon to tell, especially considering MyLink has yet to prove itself. It’s nevertheless a step in the right direction for the American automaker.

Production of the 2012 Terrain should start on July 18 at the Ingersoll plant in Ontario.
