The compact-sized Mercedes-Benz will go on sale in early 2002 with three different equipment lines as well as three sophisticated petrol engines and two extremely economical diesel models. It will be available with a five-speed manual transmission plus an optional automatic clutch system or automatic transmission. Customised items of optional equipment, including child seats for the third row of seating or a pull-out load compartment floor, add further innovative touches.
Owing to its monospace design, its low-set belt line with expansive windows and the large twin sliding doors, the compact Mercedes-Benz succeeds in generating an image which is distinctively independent of that of the established A-Class model it has so much in common with technically. The high roof and the one-box design are a clear signal of practical self-assurance. A car with a wide repertoire and supreme poise.
VANEO WILL ROLL OFF THE PRODUCTION LINES IN LUDWIGSFELDE
Mercedes-Benz will be starting production of the Vaneo at the end of this year in its Ludwigsfelde plant in the federal state of Brandenburg, south of Berlin, where it has already invested EUR 320 million in state-of-the-art production plants. An annual production rate of around 50,000 units is planned initially, although capacity of the production site near to Germany's capital could be expanded to up to 70,000.
