The Mitsubishi Galant sedan has just scored the highest possible rating of "Good" for both frontal offset and side impact crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which evaluates every new model's crashworthiness and safety level before they're released on the market.

The goal of these crash simulations is to analyze how the various active and passive safety systems will react during and after a collision.

The results were for the 2008 models, although the company said that passive safety systems on the 2009 Galant are identical. The latter, fresh from a significant redesign, also gets a rating of "Good".

Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, was proud to announce that the Galant has joined other Mitsubishi models in achieving the highest safety rating. These include the Eclipse Spyder cabriolet, the Endeavor midsize SUV and the Outlander compact SUV.

All the aforementioned vehicles from the 2008 model year are backed by a 10-5-5 warranty as well as roadside assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a 5-year period.
