The new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and its Mercury twin, the Milan, will hit markets in the first quarter of 2009. To help their owners, who, incidentally, like to know their real-time fuel consumption and how their car is doing, Ford has developed a universal smart gauge system dubbed SmartGauge. The hybrids also boast another innovative feature, the EcoGuide, which allows owners to adapt their driving in order to optimize output.

Fusion Hybrid drivers will be better connected and able to coax exceptionally fuel-efficient performances from their ride. On a colour monitor, the SmartGauge displays the status of various systems (rpm counter, power used, etc.), average and instant fuel consumption, vehicle speed, engine temperature, the number of kilometres until refuelling time as well as a host of other useful information.

The SmartGauge can be configured according to the driver's needs. The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan are the third and fourth hybrid models commercialized by Ford, who plans on doubling its production of such vehicles.
