Peugeot presented the Chinese crowd with a full-size model of the RD Concept, the winning project of the automaker's 5th design competition.

Based on the theme "Imagine the Peugeot of the Worldwide Megalopolis of Tomorrow," the contest was a smashing success, with over 2,500 projects submitted by participants from 95 countries.

An articulated electric vehicle
The Peugeot RD Concept, which operates mainly by way of an ingenious articulated setup, offers flawless handling as well as the capacity to easily zip through urban traffic.

Equipped with an eco-friendly electric motor, the single-seat concept features a driving position offering a new sense of freedom thanks to its panoramic view, voice-message driving assistance and heads-up display system that gives all the information required for travelling safely.

The concept car combines the sensations of a three-wheel scooter with the driving pleasure of a sedan while retaining all the essential functions of both modes of transport - in a silent environment.

Accessible, solid and extremely simple, the Peugeot RD Concept fits perfectly with the complex mobility constraints one would encounter in a megalopolis of the future.

Designed by Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar
Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar is a young, 27 year old Colombian who grew up in the small industrial town of Tunja. He has been working and modelling clay since he was a child and is passionate about sculpture. He has drawn, sketched and sculpted a host of objects, especially cars, in all sorts of materials.

He gave up his initial language studies in Tunja to move to Bogota and attend an Industrial Design School at the National University of Colombia, from where he has just graduated.

Peugeot's 5th design competition: a genuine success
The event created a real "buzz" with over 600,000 visitors on the www.peugeot.com site and a wealth of interaction on blogs and forums from all over the world.

As the leading international automobile design contest, the Peugeot Design Competition continues to be enthusiastically received by young designers who dream of a responsible world where mobility serves humankind without harming the environment.

Hybrid engines, electric motors and fuel cells, not to mention space-saving designs, are among the solutions explored by designers competing to guarantee this well balanced alliance between man and machine.

Peugeot is firmly committed to encouraging young talent and has upgraded the prizes offered to contest winners. In addition to seeing his or her project produced on a 1:1 scale, Peugeot now also offers the winner a cheque for 10,000 euros and an Xbox 360 console. As in previous editions of the contest, prizes are also awarded to the 29 other short-listed projects.
