Worldwide, Prius sales have topped one million vehicles since Toyota Motor Corporation introduced the model in 1997. This hybrid is particularly popular in Canada, where more than 11,000 units have been sold to environmentally-conscious buyers since 2000. For the past eight consecutive years, the Prius has won an ecoENERGY award from Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy.

This huge success has paved the way for other manufacturers looking to market their own fuel-efficient cars -- Honda, Nissan, Ford and GM, just to name a few. To put things into perspective, Toyota now sells more Prius hybrid vehicles in a single month than it did in the first three years in Canada. Clearly, there's a market for this type of vehicle and, considering today's gas prices, further growth is expected in the upcoming years.

In fact, over the next 10 years, Toyota is preparing to launch hybrid variants across its entire model lineup -- from subcompact cars to pick-up trucks.
